The Focus

The Focus

Where's the focus? Have we gotten to the point where we can forget about what is important in life? Is it just about you, your faith, your family, and your friends? Family is about the village… I see young women everyday needing the guidance of a real woman. I see young men everyday needing the guidance of a real man. As said many times before it takes a woman to teach a woman how to be a woman, and it takes a man to teach a man how to be a man. My Queens/Divas and Kings have you taught in the village today? If we don’t rise up and take our positions in the village there will be no villages. If we can teach the children to dream, we can teach them to achieve. Have you taught in the village today?

Virtuous Woman

Virtuous Woman

Yesterday I was listening to the Pastor speak and as he was speaking on women, the thought came to my mind, am I a virtuous woman? Am I displaying in my life what is right and acceptable to God and to the Divahood/Queens? Am I a woman who cares about her neighborhood, about the children? A woman who feels responsible and obligated to teach the sisters what it takes to be a strong sister even when she faces the adversaries? When you look at magazines, books and other paraphernalia you can find all kinds of self-help articles. I’m not someone from a magazine, a billboard off the highway, or the face of a Covergirl, I’m just somebody in the neighborhood. Thus, being from the neighborhood I have to ask myself, have I shared my knowledge in my hood, have I tried to reach the village? I strive to be a virtuous woman! For those of you who don’t know what a virtuous woman is, I invite you to read Proverbs 31:10, and if you feel compelled please read on. You don’t have to be a Christian to read the word of God. As Divas/Queens we have to govern ourselves by these standards so that we can be well on our way to become a virtuous woman. Let’s check our selves before we check someone else. Divas/Queens don’t forget what your roll is, don’t forget to share your knowledge with the future, because each day we all become someone’s past. Tomorrow will come, but if we are not careful the future Divas/Queens will be lost.

Diva Gone

Diva Gone

On May 9, 2010 we lost a true Diva Mrs. Lena Horne. Mrs. Horne was born June 30, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York. Mrs. Horne paved the way and set the standards for future divas, and people of color in the entertainment business. Ms. Horne had to face much discrimination because of her skin color, not her talent which was superb, but her skin color. Young divas visit the biography on Mrs. Horne and ask yourself am I carrying myself like a diva? In order to understand where you are at right now you need to know where you’ve been. This means that you must acquaint yourself with your past, and that is those who have paved the way for you. I won’t judge and neither should you, but I will hold a diva to high standards. Just because a sister calls herself a diva doesn’t mean she is one. Pay homage to the past divas, for they are your future. Mrs. Lena Horne I thank you for paving the way for me to just be a proud black woman. Mrs. Diva we salute you. Rest in peace Mrs. Horne.
